"Great except for the needed repair" 2009-07-18
By Randy Robles (Anaheim, CA United States)
I'll keep it short. This TV is great and for the price, I can't really whine too much. However, I've only had it a bit over a month and already the power supply needed to be replaced. It's not that big of a deal, but I did have to take off work to be at home so they could do the work. Twice since they didn't honor the first appointment. And I had this on a wall mount. Wow, not fun getting that thing down without screwing up the wall and/or TV. Whatever, I'm over it. It works again.

Had this TV for about a month & love it!!!!! Great picture and features. My cousin has a 60" Kuro and I like my Samsung better.

The 63" screen is much more impressive and the picture quality is

awesome. Plus you cannot beat the price. Delivery from Amazon was flawless. TV was delivered as promised, put on furniture stand, connected to the cable box and it was good to go!!! I also bought

the sleek wireless new Samsung Blue Ray with free shipping & no

sales tax. Wow!!!

Ordered the A650 model 3-4 weeks ago. They had the best price and I was excited. A couple of weeks into it and many conflicting answers from them, I canceled the order.

Got a call back offering me the new model B550 for $400 less and better specifications. After a quick research I decided to give them another shot. Again, this in stock but not close . Well a week later I call them to cancel my order and they tell me that the TV at the shipper, this is Friday the 3rd. On Sunday the shipper calls and lets me know that the TV will be here next week.

Got it today, works beautifully. Called Samsung and registered the TV as I was worried about that too. But they did have my address so BF must have done something about it.

All in all, quite an experiance, but nice to save almost $1000.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

 "Damaged on delivery TWICE!!!" 2009-07-01
By C. Arft (St. Louis, MO)
Ordered the Samsung PN63B550 from Amazon and it was damaged upon delivery by CEVA and returned to Amazon. The replacement arrived and the entire panel was shattered, delivered again by CEVA.

Called Amazon's customer service and I've been told they cannot get this TV for another 1-2 months. A full refund has been requested and I've been told that too will take several weeks. Unbelievable.

I'm very disappointed in shipping by CEVA and Amazon. I would highly recommend NOT buying a TV from Amazon. Their policies for shipping (no air freight, only truck) and refund policies are terrible.

If you plan on purchasing a nice TV, buy from a reputable LOCAL dealer and NOT AMAZON. Think twice about the deals Amazon touts; sometimes it's too good to be true.

 "Best Picture by far" 2009-07-14
By R. Schmitt (Louisville, KY)
I purchased this TV about a week ago and have really gotten to love the picture. If you do buy this you really need a Blue Ray Player. The Blue Ray movies are fantastic.

Overall this was very easy to set up and the picture looks great right out of the box with no adjustments. This is a big tv at 58" and the HDMI hook ups really make things life like. I hooked it up to a Onkyo receiver with 7.1 surround sound for the ultimate theater experience. I really didn't like the sound coming from the built in speakers for a set this big.

My son hooked up Xbox360, Wii and Playstation 3 to the set and the motion in the games is great along with unbelievable graphics.

This set has pretty much run 24-7 since we got it without a flaw. The only thing that I really didn't care about was the internet connectivity. You really don't get to do much except look at weather, stock and a few other widgets. I do recommend a clean power source with this TV like one made by Monster to keep from getting power spikes.

I think there is no other choice for price and picture. I looked at the Pioneer Elite and felt this had a much better picture along with being much thinner at 1.2" but it still weighs 100lb's and that's pretty heavy to move.

This is one big, bright and sharp picture. I am very happy with my purchase.

"Samsung Pros and Cons on this set" 2009-06-07
By Glen V. Hansen
This set is fantastic once you get it up and running. The picture is so life like it is unreal and that is to a typical T.V. Antenna; however, here is what some of the problems are.

First try going to Samsung Webb Page to register this produce, GOOD LUCK.

It tries to tell me that the serial number is not a good one and that this product isn't on the market until May 2010, Yea right, I then trying to hook it up to the internet. What a pain. My home network recognized it being hooked up but at first it however, the set told me it wasn't there, said there was no connection. Then finally it did recognize it.

I try to activate the divx feature on it and then it tells me that the Divx code that is preset in this plasma set is not a valid code, I try contacting Samsung and finally got a support e-mail, I even attached pictures to the e-mail of the set serial number and model number, That sure was a waste of time, they e-mail me back and said that was Webb page design problem and for me to contact them myself. (I really don't know how to do that, without an e-mail address or phone number). After all it is their cooperation and they should have done whatever it takes to correct the problem.

I then try to use Microsoft multi-media is looking for an 8 digit code and this has a 10 digit code. Finally had a neighbor that is an I.T. Geek check it out after about 1 hour the network and the TV now finally recognized each other so that I now can access my home computer through the set as to watch movies that are on file on my computer.

Now, this is for the final complaint part. You should be able to upgrade the T.V. software from the set itself my means of the internet, I try to access it and now there is no such luck with that since there is an error (400) pops up. My guess it is looking for the model and serial number as it is interfacing with the Samsung server and since it not a registered it will not allow it to happen.

Samsung needs to make sure that the TV and development engineers, along with technical support and Webb page design need to make sure that customers like me are happy when they make it easy and simple, and easy to contact their customer support without jumping through hoops, and not have to go to the neighbors.

So I still not able to access Divx., or have the product proper registered, and be able to download the up graded software.

 "Best 2009 Plasma TV" 2009-06-26
By Curt R. Petersen (Pembroke Pines, FL United States)
This TV is the best thing I have spent my hard earn money on in the last 9 years. Picture quality is amazing. Everything from HDTV, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Blu-ray looks jaw dropping compared to my old rear projection set. It has PIP. It can properly render 1080p/24Hz without any flickering even with the cinema smooth feature turned off IMO. No undesirable soap opera effect like the LCD's. I noticed some minor image retention within the first few hours of use while watching Transformers the first night of owning the TV with the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, and the date and time on the PS3 XMB. I can only see it faintly on an all black screen. I switch to HDTV and could not see it at all. After one day of watching the TV I do not see any more image retention at all. I play video games with health bars and ammo count displays for many hours with no problems. IR is not a problem with this TV. The TV sits next to sliding glass doors where sunlight comes in and I can see the picture just fine. My rear projection TV picture was so terrible in the light I had to close my blinds most of the day. This TV is perfect for anyone who wants an amazing picture quality. Two things that some people might not like is that you can feel the heat the TV produces if you are right up on it, and the digital out is only two channel audio. No multi-channel decoding of any kind. The heat is noticeable but not a problem for me. I am finally indulging myself in the 1080p world.

 "So far so good" 2009-06-17
By Kristin (Montgomery, Alabama)
I recently bought this TV from Amazon along with this TV I purchased the following item[...]. I have yet to receive the stand but it says it can hold up to 58" inch plasma, I'll edit the review later to let you know how that works.

I wanted to write this review since I saw another review stating that they had issues watching 480i content with this TV. I haven't found anywhere where this is well documented and on top of that, I had absolutely no problem watching regular DVD's on this TV with my HD DVD player [...] through an HDMI cable. They played stunningly (especially for a regular DVD). The picture was crisp and clear on DVD not to mention how it looks when I play an HD DVD. Perhaps the reviewer may need to update their firmware on their hardware; otherwise I'm not sure why they couldn't watch a standard DVD on an HD DVD player. I have yet to try any games on this TV so I can't rate it in that area.

I have had no issues with the volume controls or loudness of the regular speakers. I currently do not have a home theater and these controls are set lower than what I've had to set my other 2 TV's at (a 42" inch and 52" Toshiba Regza LCD TV). The speakers get a + from me.

I was very worried about burn in after purchasing this TV. I have only had LCD's therefore the issue of burn in never arose. I have researched this problem a lot and it seems although it can still be an issue it isn't as prevalent as it once was. Most of my DVD's including HD DVD will leave the block boxes at top and the bottom while watching and this worried me. However, they say as long as you integrate watching regular TV or swap it up so that it isn't there all the time, the burn in issue really isn't an issue. The biggest thing is to be careful for the first 200 hours as this is when burn in can occur the easiest. Just don't leave anything paused or sitting there for an extended period of time and your average semi-cautious user won't experience any problems.

I did a lot of research before I purchased this TV, including checking prices, visiting local retailers and just viewing articles on the Internet. Overall, for me, I think this was a very good buy. [...] I think anyone who purchases this TV definitely won't be disappointed.

"Great for HD But beware of some issues you may not know" 2009-06-13
By JimboC (USA)
This TV has a stunning picture if you are watching HD content. OH, and all important info missing on Samsung is that it does HAVE PIP. However it has a lot of issues that make Samsung or Plasma/LCD TV's a pain.

1) The sound from the T speakers is useless, yes some of us do like to use the TV speakers for regular TV watching to preserve our hearing.

2) If you hook it up to a BD DVD Player like Sony PS3 or an HD DVD Player and try to play non Blu-Ray/HD DVD movies it is well documented that it will not play them and show a message "Mode not Compatible" especially when you are using HDMI (DUH!). I have not tried to use a component cable to see if it will work or a regular DVD player. IF I had found this out I would never have bought this TV. SO INDIANS BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE that you may have to use a regular DVD player to watch 480i content.

I think this is why it deserves a 3 star. Otherwise 5 star for HD watching the picture is beyond compare even in standard mode.

"Great picture with no problems." 2009-07-12
By R. H. George (Beavercreek, OH United States)
The 560 has a great picture and more than adequate sound. Although the sound may not be up to audiophile standards, it is plenty good for me. If I want to I can turn on the stereo receiver and enjoy from there. There is no buzzing at all, as experienced by the other reviewer.

The picture is flawless. DirecTV has a very detailed picture on many of the cable channels (National Geographic, A&E, etc.), but my local channels on DirecTV are not quite as good as they are directly off the air.

My only complaint is the inherent heat output of the plasma display. If you have marginal air conditioning, you will not like the noticeable heat being put into the room. It will be a plus in the winter time.

Delivery by Pilot was on-time. The TV was ordered on a Friday evening and it was delivered the next Thursday within the window given by Pilot. Although the box was clearly marked with two labels that the TV was to be handled by two people, Pilot showed up with one person. He unloaded the box from the truck and dragged it into my house. He and I had to lift my 76 lb old DLP TV off the component cabinet and then lift the new 100 lb TV onto it. I am 74 years old with back problems and I did not appreciate Pilot showing up with one person.

That bad taste was quickly replaced by the enjoyment of watching the 560. It is a BIG screen and dominates the corner of my room, but is just the right size for me, viewing from about 12 to 14 feet away. It makes for an awesome viewing experience! I don't think one can go wrong buying this TV.

Great picture. Great price. I liked the Pilot delivery. Amazon should post the complete delivery process because it can be a touch confusing (take that as strictly constructive).

It would be nice if the TV set had a "custom" setting instead of having to change of the standards. To that end , I don't care for the "Movie" setting at all.

Would buy the set again in a heart beat. I agree with all the other reviews, no need to repeat them.

"Great plasma picture, everything works, sound needs help!" 2009-07-06
By John M. Story
After studying various brands, models, lcds, dlps, plasmas, etc, and looking at various sets playing in local stores - got an excellent price from amazon.com on this Samsung and it arrived quickly all in one piece. Easy set-up on my existing stand - it's not heavy or cumbersome for two people to move. Plugged it in - no buzz. Yea! Turned it on and followed the initial set-up instructions. Hooked up the new Samsung Blu-Ray, a near-new Panasonic dvd/vcr recorder/player, and an Insight Cable HDDVR - all three using HDMI cables. Set the "Movie Mode" to on, turned down the contrast just a bit, tweaked a few more things to my personal taste, and proceeded to be amazed by the images this set can produce. Blu-Ray is absolutely excellent, dvd is upconverted to 1080p and looks great, old videos look smooth and better than you'd expect, HD cable looks much better - depending on the channel and program you're watching. Also, I still watch quite a bit of two digital cable channels: Turner Classic and Fox Movie channels. After realizing that I can adjust "Movie Mode" individually for each source, I did a lot of tweaking to get these two digital favorites looking "acceptable, fair-to-good, ok-for-now." At least, I can live with them the way they look which is about the way they looked on the 4-year-old Sony 55" HDTV the Samsung is replacing. I don't care for the built-in sound system which is thin, hollow and blah - got a small Sony sound system which does fine in my condo, which residence came complete with a "no-loud-speakers" clause in my owners contract. Reflections are minimal in my living room - not a problem at all. The TVs remote is ok and it talks back and forth to the new Blu-Ray player which takes some getting used to. The Blu-Ray machine has Netflix built-in which works fine using my wireless LAN - no problems. Also included with Netflix is a service that was new to me - Pandora - which allows you to go online to a website, build various "radio stations" playing only music you like, and the Blu-Ray plays the music back thru your TV. This is a wonderful addition to any Home Theater - I love it! A problem: the sound pauses on some selections - just for a moment at the beginning as the song starts to play. Samsung thinks it's Pandora's problem; Pandora isn't sure; I think the Samsung Blu-Ray needs a firmware upgrade to address this very small and not very bothersome complaint. More thoughts: don't forget to use the supplied "tether" to tie your new set to the wall - it feels a bit "teetery" to me. It gets warm on top but not what I'd call "hot." I keep fiddling with the settings on each source's "Movie Mode" trying to better the picture and have them all about where I think they belong - your mileage may vary: please tweak away to your heart's content - it's free! Image retention/burn-in: haven't noticed this being a problem - I keep the set on 16x9 most all the time and run the "scroll" to wipe the screen every evening for about 10 minutes. This seems to address any slight problems. As far as using those "first 100 hours" dvds I read about - too much trouble for me. Trying to be as gentle as I can be with it the first month or so will have to do. Friends who have seen the new Samsung in operation cannot believe the Blu-Ray pictures the set delivers: they've been simply amazed!

BOTTOM LINE: I love it, but wish I'd gone ahead and gotten the 63" model instead of the 58" - maybe next time!

"Very Happy with Our Samsung" 2009-07-05

We paid a little more for the 560 because we read reviews about a buzzing coming from the earlier models. No buzzing from this model. Picture is outstanding and the sound is really good - haven't yet hooked up our sound system and may not. Love having the extra USB ports. We have both our PS3 and PS2 hooked up to it, as well as digital cable. But even non-digital shows look really good - something that was not the case with our last big screen tv. We are very happy!

"So Happy I Bought Plasma and Happy with Samsung" 2009-06-26
By Gary D. Yardley
I have a long story to tell, but to cut to the chase, this is a great TV from a good company. Fantastic picture and no buzzing sound at all.

Now the story. I bought this TV to replace a 52" Samsung LCD television I had in the living room. I was very happy with the LCD, but when it was 18 months old it developed a block of dead pixels about dead center of the screen. The LCD was out of warranty, so I moved it to the bedroom and replaced it with this plasma.

I decided to call Samsung customer service just to see if there was anything they could do about the dead pixels. I was transferred to Executive Customer Care and told to send by email a copy of my receipt, the SN, and picture of the screen. About 2 hours later a rep called to make an appointment to come look at the television. A week later a service man came to my house and replaced the LCD panel, no charge for parts or labor. They did it at my house and it took about an hour. That is great customer service.

As it turned out I didn't need to buy this plasma, but I am still glad I did. The extra six inches make a huge difference watching movies. And the picture blows the LCD out of the water. The colors are more realistic and the movement just seems smoother and more natural. I still like the LCD, and 52 inches in the bedroom is nice, but for now I think plasma is the picture to beat. And Samsung has certainly earned my loyalty.

"Outstanding clarity...Love the USB movie feature !" 2009-07-20

Ordered this on Amazon and whole process till delivery was smooth. 5 stars to Amazon for the price as well, as always :)

I'm extremely pleased with the picture quality & feature set on this TV. This is my first HDTV, but I did do a lot of research before buying this one. I chose this model over others (5 series & Panny Viera) because this is the only "plasma" TV I could find in the market that supports DLNA (ability to stream files directly off my PC) and also has support for USB hard drive hookup. I hooked up my 500 gig (FAT32 format only) HDD and voila, all the files I can play directly off the HDD. Supports all possible media formats out there !! Apart from this it has extremely good connectivity (4 HDMI slots) and numerous inputs to hook up your home theater. This TV is a treat for the eyes...go get this one and you won't be disappointed.

"Makes me feel I made the right choice." 2009-07-12
By S. Bae (Miami, FL)
If you're in the market for a HDTV then the Samsung PN50B650 is worth a second look. Externally, the attractive Touch of Color design incorporated into the clear beveled edged glass exudes sophistication and class. Internally, the Crystal Full HD Engine and Samsung's e-panel technology translates into a blur free clear vibrant picture perfect for sports and movies alike.

Truthfully I started off in the HDTV market looking for a 52" LCD panel with 1080p and 120hz specs. After a month of searching I realized that a name brand set with the specs above was out of my budget. I wasn't considering a plasma because I thought it was outdated technology, fear of image retention, cost of operation, and plasma's heavier weight difference. However, as I researched more into plasmas I was informed that my fears were they themselves outdated. Plasma was not outdated technology, many companies were still pouring money into plasma R&D. IR for sure is still a concern but with some simple basic precautions and use of the built in pixel shifting option, IR has become a very minor concern. This set is also Energy Star compliant using 40% less power than prior years plasmas (as per Samsung's website) and comparably to LCDs of the same size. As for weight, I wasn't too concerned because my set wasn't going on a wall. Regardless the weight difference to a LCD is only about 15 lbs or so. Also, this set comes with an attractive stand that allows the TV to rotate for optimal viewing.

The cons I have so far are: Even with the FilterBright technology incorporated into the screen, glare is still a factor. I have my set in a room with no curtains and no direct sunlight but still find myself changing the brightness control at times during daylight use. While the Media 2.0 is a fantastic feature (and the reason why I highly recommend this set over the B550 for a few extra $) it can be slow at times. Lastly, the speakers on this TV is marginal. You will eventually need something externally powered.

I will not bore you with pros and cons of this set's internal specs, you can interpret them anyway you want but for a non HDTV expert that was merely trying to get the best value for the money, with great picture quality and technology, in an attractive looking TV, this Samsung was a clear choice for me. Lastly, the other plasma I was considering was the Panasonic G10. It has slightly better reviews but esthetically IMO the Samsung was a clear winner. For the non HDTV expert like myself, the image quality differences were unnoticeable.

*I do not have the buzz or the pinkish hues some others claim on their sets.

 "very happy" 2009-06-29

This review is my personal opinion and is not sponsored by anyone.

After a good amount of research I decided to get Samsung PN50B650. It's been almost 3 weeks already and I could not be more happier. I am not a videophile, but picture looks outstanding and it actually looks better then my 1 year old Sony Bravia 52inch LCD. best feature is ability to stream content from your PC or USB memory stick or HDD. so far, I have not discovered format that it does not handle.

 "Highly recommended!" 2009-06-24
By Eternyl (Milwaukee, WI USA)
Basically I've had this TV for about 3 weeks already, and wanted to share since when researching this new 2009 Samsung PN50B650 set, there were limited reviews.

the specs and price on this had me at hello...

3,000,000:1 Mega Contrast

0.001ms pixel-response time.

600Hz

Cinema Smooth

4 HDMI ports

Tuners: ATSC / NTSC / QAM

ENERGY STAR qualified

Anynet

DLNA

First off I was always sketchy on Plasma...because of course burn in, and the whole LCD rage taking off.

Basically it was a "burn in" vs "dead pixel" face off.

But burn in is a non issue...sometimes the History channel will leave its logo for a few seconds, but it's not even noticeable unless you try to find it. I play PS3 games on it and it's perfect.

The 4 HDMI ports are priceless....I thought it would be overkill...but add in a TivoHD, PS3, Receiver...and I'm down to 1 side HDMI input left...

The 650 also has the extra internet USB adapter ($75) is very nice as well....connecting to Flickr, your network & Yahoo Weather is very nice.

not built in but, so what.

The TV speakers are basic and tolerable I guess, but if you are looking to get a 50" plasma, I would hope you would have a home theater in a box at least.

The TOC finish is very very nice, and the touch of color really makes this set stand out...I thought I'd hate it but once it's in the house...it is nice.

I think the main reason to really look at this set is the "Cinema Smooth" feature which is present on this panel....and I think only until you get to the 850 model you won't see it available. This is very nice since it delivers in the native 24p content, same frame rate as movies are recorded.

and I don't have any buzzing, which some people were reporting on the AVS Forum.

Well compared to my Samsung 40 40A650 LCD 120hz, which I really liked...this Plasma is a big step up.

In the store the bright lights and the demo modes make the LCD stand out...but in my home setting....holy bright...it was always in movie mode...so now the kids can play games on it in, the plasma is for the living room now.

The blacks and whites are more lifelike on the Plasma...although the LCD has way whiter whites...it just make it look too digital.

basically I have a much better viewing angle...pic looks perfect from all angles....and it looks more "real life quality"..if that makes sense.

basically I still can't get used to the "3D Soap Opera effect" on the LCD, and the speed is still nowhere to the plasma especially in sports...even with the 120hz I could catch the blur in a football.

Here's my deal sealer....standard def channels, are pretty good...I can watch them again. On the LCD...standard Def..I preferred to watch an old Toshiba 36" CRT in the loft if I had to.

granted it's not an 850 or 950....but the price difference is huge.

at this cheap of a price, I'm thinking about getting a second...seriously it's a steal.

"I never thought I'd order a TV from Amazon" 2009-07-15
By Michael Hurley (NJ USA)
After looking around forever, I finally settled on the 42-inch plasma from Samsung. It arrived today and I have to say the picture is fantastic. (I'm told that burn in and other issues from earlier plasma models have been rectified to a large extent - we'll see.) Their shipper did a good job and the set arrived without a scratch. One suggestion: Give the shipper's contact info on the Amazon order page - this will save a lot of running around looking for their number in the event you need to contact them, which I did. (Please note: I ordered from Amazon and not from one of the other sellers who also appear on the site.)

 "Great TV, Great Bargain" 2009-07-06
By James (USA)
What a wonderful TV this turned out to be. I was debating between an RCA that I saw at Walmart and a Proscan that I found at Costco. I'm glad I went with the name brand Samsung. Color is amazing and sound is fantastic. The HDMI cables that I bought on Amazon were really low cost as well. Setup was super easy and the unit was remarkable light compared to units just a few years old. Highly recommended.

"This is a great TV for the money!" 2009-07-06
By Monica Warden
This is the first time I've bought something like this through Amazon and not only am I extremely pleased, my experience with the seller and installer was equally great. This TV has a crisp, clear picture and is fairly intuitive to operate. Plenty of inputs for multiple HDMI connections (3) and PC and cable/satellite. 720p is more than enough HD resolution for most shows. Great value for the price.

 "Best budget HDTV" 2009-07-05
By Hoi K. Lee
I have been doing research on HDTVs for my living room and master bedroom for over 1 year. CNET has not reviewed this TV yet, but after going through all their HDTV reviews on Samsung sets, I have no hesitation to purchase this TV when it's price hit $699 with free shipping. This is the latest of Samsung's budget plasmas, and I couldn't be anymore happier. The menu is simple to navigate, picture is bright and crisp. I used auto program to find available channels via my wall cable, and it found at least 100 channels (both OTA HD-digital, and also cable digital). My only con is that I can't "name" those numerous channels in my list; thus, I have to memorize the specific channel numbers. Since I use this TV in my bedroom, I decided not to purchase an additional cable decoder for it. Originally, I was going to purchase the 32" Samsung LCD, but for an extra $150, I went for the 42"! I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a budget set for their bedroom or gameroom.

I currently own the Samsung 52 inch LCD (purchased from Amazon) and now I own the 42 inch plasma.(also purchased from Amazon). This 42 inch rivals my 52 LCD. Samsung really hit the mark with this TV. Got free delivery which put the icing on the cake. Love the remote which is identical to my 52 inch model. This TV has no dead zones and viewing angle is great. Some slight glare during daylight hrs but not enough to stay clear of this TV... YOU WONT BE UNHAPPPY WITH THIS PURCHASE...SAMSUNG GETS AN A++++ for great performace and ease of use!!!!!

 "Great HDTV" 2009-06-20
By A. Dewangan
I purchased this Television in September 2008. I have been using to watch DVDs, play XBox360 games and watch television channels. I use it for about 5 hours each day and have really enjoyed every minute of the high quality picture and sound. Totally recommend it!!

If you are looking for a large television on a budget, this Plasma TV will most definitely work for you. All the rumors about the slow refresh rate are crap. I have been playing all sorts of games on this. Just use it carefully for the first 100 hours and you will enjoy every moment of it from thereon.

 "Very happy." 2009-06-20
By Paul Janikowski (La Crosse, WI)
Setup is pretty easy, of course depending on what kind of stand you buy. Picture is excellent. You do not need a 1080 set as very few programs come with that resolution. I went from a 27" magnavox standard definition set to this and I will say that if you don't have HD, you completely lose all the great performance from this set. In fact, I would rather watch standard definition on my old tv. When you go up in size like I did, it just blurs your standard definition picture. Don't even consider this tv unless you have HD.

 "Worth every penny" 2009-05-28
By Abeesh Basheer (PA, USA)
I waited till 6 months so that I could give real feedback. So here is the report.

Pros

1. The colors look bright and the pictures are good.

2. I could hook up my laptop and watch almost all the movies in crystal quality. So definitely buy a VGA/HDMI cable.

3. A much needed upgrade from a CRT I was used to.

Cons

1. The upscaling for regular low resolution videos may not be that good out of the box. But you could configure a video player/mplayer to output a higher resolution picture which looks good.

Avg

1. The sound is good.

How much did I pay?

I bought it on the wee hours of morning of Black Friday from amazon for around $900

What about burn in?

I was worried about burn in on a plasma but 6 months and watching tons of movies/TV have not seen sign of it yet. But a). I always have my video to fit the entire screen b) There was never the same picture played always

720p vs 1080p?

I am finding a hard time getting 720p material cheap and if you have a good upscaling converter the difference is minimal, at least for me.

Installation?

Amazon gave white glove service and they were very helpful installing it. If I had bought at a retail store I would have had to arrange for transportation and installation. Too big to carry around.

 "I LOVE IT!" 2009-04-28
By Struff
I bought this about a month and a half ago and I am still excited about it.

The TV is absolutely stunning when watching hi-def on DirecTV. DVD's and videogames also look amazing! I have found myself re-watching movies and TV shows just because things look so great, and I have found myself stopping on many channels and programs that I am not usually interested in because of the stunning images. Non hi-def channels don't always look as good, however, and everything on my basic (non HD) Comcast cable looks like total crap. But I only use that for one local cable news channel from time to time so it's not a big deal to me. Hi-def rules!

The price here on Amazon was better than anywhere else at the time. I first saw it during the Circuit City liquidation sales and came here to read reviews, but I saw that the price here was better than CC's 30% off. Plus free delivery and setup from here, which CC wouldn't have done.

I don't think I would call the delivery "white glove", but they did their job so I can't complain. I was skeptical about it at first because when I ordered it, the website gave me a "guaranteed" delivery date. However in the confirmation email, it said "estimated". Since I had taken that day off from work, I wasn't very happy so I emailed Amazon and they said that it would arrive on the date originally promised. But then I got an email from the delivery service and they said it would be the following day. I had to call them a few times and contact Amazon again, but in the end it did come on the date Amazon promised.

"Excellent tv for the price. I would even pay more..." 2009-04-27
By S. Pekarchik
This tv is phenomenal. Excellent picture even in a bright room that gets a lot of sunshine. More than enough inputs. I have it next to another tv and the picture quality and colors are just sooo much better on this Samsung. Can't comment on the sound quality as I run the sound through a separate tuner. Buy it...it's amazing and extremely cheap for this size and quality.
